Heritage Group Investigate the Original Barn Floor

Sunday morning and members of the Heritage Group were at the Hall investigating the original barn floor now that it was exposed. The floor of the barn appeared to have originally being at two levels. To the north side of the door a higher level, probably to unload the corn onto directly from the carts that brought it to the barn. This had been partly dug away when the barn was converted to a Parish Hall and the higher level only existed under the stage area. To the south side of the door the group fund a lower level hard whiter surface which appeared to have been formed using sand and lime mix.

The walls of the barn at lower levels are constructed of stone that appear to sit straight onto an original earth foundations at ground level. No mortar was found in the stonework that was exposed.

Some artefact were discovered including of old animal bones, metal chisel, and small broken glass bottle.
